Keeping kids active when the weather is bad

Regular exercise is essential for children as it plays a crucial role in their overall health and development… but keeping kids active when the weather is bad (more commonly known as summer 2023) can be a challenge, but there are plenty of indoor activities and creative solutions to keep them engaged and moving. Here are some ideas:

  1. Indoor scavenger hunt: Create a list of items for the kids to find around the house. Make it fun and challenging, and they’ll be running around searching for the items.
  2. Dance party: Put on some lively music and have a dance party. Let the kids show off their moves and burn off energy in a fun way.
  3. Exercise games: There are various video games and apps that encourage physical activity, like dancing games, yoga for kids, or interactive sports games.
  4. Indoor obstacle course: Set up an obstacle course with cushions, pillows, chairs, and other safe items. Kids can crawl, jump, and climb their way through the course.
  5. Balloon volleyball: Clear a space in the living room and use a balloon as a volleyball. Kids can play a modified version of volleyball, keeping the balloon from touching the floor.
  6. Freeze dance: Play music and let the kids dance, but when the music stops, they have to freeze in place until it starts again.
  7. Indoor hopscotch: Use painter’s tape on the floor to create an indoor hopscotch grid. Kids can hop through the squares and have fun while being active.
  8. Animal yoga: Lead the kids through a yoga session where they imitate different animals’ movements and sounds.

Remember to adapt these activities to the age and abilities of the kids involved, and always ensure safety comes first. With a little creativity, even bad weather won’t dampen the fun and physical activity!
