My four-month-old’s head all of a sudden seems to be tipping to one side, could this be torticollis?
Torticollis is common in infants and can be present from birth or appear later. A baby’s head turns preferentially in one direction and may have tight neck muscles on one side. An assessment by your GP or paediatrician is very important to look for any other rare underlying causes, especially if this has only occurred recently. In most cases all that is required is simple stretching exercises for tight neck muscles, tummy time and your GP may refer you to a paediatrician for a health check and children’s physiotherapist. Any new symptom in an infant does need to be checked by your doctor and usually this is all the reassurance needed.
